I have a question about polishes & base and top coats. I am currently using a mix of 3, 4, and 5 free polishes. Some are indie and some are not. I also use some glitter top coats (almost all, if not all, indie). Here are my questions:

1) Does being 3, 4, or 5 free matter for the basecoat/topcoat? If so, what would be the best bet for one I could use with all of them (I'm guessing either 3 or 5 free).

2) Is there a good, somewhat inexpensive 3+ free indie topcoat I can get that will help smooth out glitters?

3) What are your favorite indie base coats that 3, 4, or 5 free? Same for top coats?

Right now, I generally don't use a top coat because my nails last a couple days without and by then I usually want to change it up anyway, but there are times when I want something to last so I would like to have one for those times.

And lately I've been using either Essie Millionails or Rainbow Honey's All Your Base as my base coat and I do always use a base coat.

This. I asked about topcoats in the Rainbow honey thread and got several answers. Apparently I should only ask about topcoats other than RH here. However, the topic has been here for a few days with no response. I clearly need to find somewhere to learn about polish, and I have no idea where to go.

do an internet or google search that's what I would do

@@MissJessicaMary and @@CAPSLOCK, I agree with Megan2, but further, just do a simple search in this forum and you'll find this subject has been discussed many times in different threads. I grabbed a few of them here, but there are more. I suspect many in the group are figuring you can likely find the answer with just a bit of looking. If you have specific questions after searching and reading, people will be more likely to respond. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> Good luck:

There are more. Hope that helps.

I'll answer this specifically too, but it will be just from my experience, and it's better to get that overall view from many people because we're all different: different nail chemistry etc.

1) I don't think it matters if you're not having any specific issues. Whatever works best for you. There is more of an issue sometimes with using a non 3-5 free polish/base/top with a 3-5 free product. Even that isn't encountered by some.

2) I bought a bunch of Cult Nails Wicked Fast last time it was on sale and enjoy that. I haven't tried many others.

3) I don't use much base coat as I create my own gel base. I also haven't used many indies. Cult Nails seems to work, but my nails are too brittle for regularly doing an all/only rnp (regular nail polish) mani. I use their top. I also like Nubar Diamont and Poshe, though they're not indie.

I haven't tried any of those.

I use Sally Hansen Insta-Dry top coat in the red bottle almost exclusively. I love it and my favorite thing to tell people is that it wears like concrete. Seriously. Now my best friend uses it as well, but she doesn't get the same results as me, it chips on her much faster than it chips on me. I don't get shrinkage with Sally's, I know that's a concern for some who use Seche Vite. (I probably spelled that wrong!! Lol) I also have a ton of indies, I frequently use glitter polish, and if I don't take the time & prep my nails correctly first, I do have issues even with the Sally Hansen.

I don't have a specific base coat that I use, I use whatever I have on hand.

Different things work on different people, so it's a matter of trial & error sometimes. My current mani will be one week old tomorrow, and it still looks decent. A little tip wear, a few small chips but I honestly could get another day or two out of it if need be.
