Starlooks August 2014

Recommended Posts

Based on the lookbook, I definitely see blush in our futures.

I think fake eyelashes too.

I'm really kind of disappointed they didn't make the blonde's brows more bold.

With that being said, I don't think this is a very exciting look book, and I hope they don't send a black liner. But I sure hope @@sarahtyler is right about blush being in our future. I want all the blushes. A non cream blush will make me a very happy girl!

Not as BOLD as the neon from last month, which is what I expected. I like how they still did some fun looks with neutral colors. I'm hopeful for blush and I personally haven't tried their liquid liner yet so I wouldn't mind that at all. False lashes would be a "meh" but not unwelcome as I do use them from time to time (would totally fit their Dollhouse theme). I'm wondering if we get a nude or light pink lip gloss. Either way, yay August!

Even though I started subbing in December of last year I still feel like a Starlooks newbie sometimes because I haven't tried some of their basic things like mascara, black eyeliners, liquid liners, eyelashes etc. So for me, for the sake of trying all their products, I am pretty open minded. I was wondering if this month would be the customization month launch....I think that would make a lot of people happy. A Neutral month is a good month to do it too! Less box envy that way.

I would love to try their liquid black eyeliner.  I wouldn't be upset over mascara.   I just don't wear false eyelashes and there is a nasty rumor that ipsy is going to put falsies in the august bag & it would be just my luck - lol

I am fine with a white eyeliner, a black liquid eyeliner, blush, lipgloss.  That would make me happy.

I would LOVE white eyeliner. Talk about the best base for colored eye shadows/pigments! *I am crazy into indie loose shadows right now and white bases are totally my best friend for dramatic colors*

Hooray for blush!!! Starlooks is my favorite blush formula!!! Fingers crossed we get some.

I don't know if they'd do a black & a white eyeliner in one box. They already did that last June so I can't imagine them doing both in the same box again. However, having said that, I love the pen liner!!! It's my favorite.

I can't wait to see what all we get. I'm kind of glad it's a more subdued month. I loved the bright colors from last month, but I love how Starlooks changes it up each month. Something different than the month before!

I hope that there will be blush! I especially would like one of their powder blushes! Anything else in the box would be a bonus at that point. I would love a light highlighting powder too, but since they gave us the cream blush that could be used in a similar way a little while ago, that probably will not be happening. It would be amazing if there was a brush.

they also gave us that HUGE container of highlighting powder a few months ago - it came in light and bronze.  I got the light version.

I dont love the lookbook and really do not want false eyelashes. I never tried their mascara so I would not mind and I really would looooooooooooove powder blush like the rest of you gals.

I did order their liquid eyeliner pen (the one we did not ever get in their past box) with my 50% order and I really like it. I would not mind getting another one since its a staple.

I am excited no matter what it is!  LIke most of you, I would LOVE some blush -- mine is a tiny little loose lump in the bottom of the container that I keep pushing around with the brush, hoping to get some!  Happy day if we get blush.  Could definitely live without the fake lashes, but the rest of it seems interesting.  Want to try new stuff, want to try new stuff (I just keep repeating that LOL).

@@Psquared they've mentioned they're redoing the loyalty rewards program, so we might not be getting a code or anything like that now.

But technically yes, I believe this should be loyalty reward month.

thanks for letting me @@ChullBird I totally missed that!!

I guess we will see what happens this month :) I wonder if they will do nothing at all or give us something as a transition period to their new program...

It sounded like it was only for the first half of the year and not happening anymore. I don't know if anyone knows for sure, though.

I talked to them on the phone last month because I was curious about their birthday boxes (July was my birthday so of course they'd stop birthday boxes in JULY!!!)

They are changing over to a points system this month.  Info about it will be in our August boxes.  We will get points for our birthday month, for referrals, for things we purchase, & as part of the loyalty program.  We can use these points to buy what we want from the website.  I don't know specific details like how many points we get for what or how many points equal $1, but they are going to a point system.

Part of me is nervous because point systems can be fabulous (go Birchbox!) or awful (Ipsy anyone?) so it will be interesting to see how it all plays out.  However, Starlooks has some of the best customer service out there & they really listen to their customers so I'm hoping the point system is a good thing.  We'll have to wait for our boxes to see what it's all about.

    • Amazing video from Second Year No Buyer Elle S today on YouTube: "$1000 Worth of Eyeshadow ... What Could I have Bought Instead?" Elle shows only seven palettes that cost a total of $1000 (CAD). Elle is not in the dream of denial shopping. She is serious about money, facing reality, real life (though she is still enjoying the creativity of makeup). "I can't afford it," she says. I can relate to her point about being someone who buys a lot of cosmetics, but never goes for a mani or pedi, or anything like that. She asks: How many things have I missed because of my purchases? Now that's something to think about! I often think of how my life would have been different if I'd been able to start on this No Buy path at a young age. There was no Internet then, so I did not have this kind of inspiration. I only had magazines and TV ads telling me to buy, buy, buy!  But, why do all the No Buy people say they want to replace shopping with experiences? Shopping is an experience too! It a great experience and that's why we like it. I'm only giving it up to get rid of debt, because I know money makes me happy.  I grew up in 1970s suburban America. I grew up in a shopping mall and in K Mart. I was always at those places with my friends, searching for identity. So of course shopping is high on my list of experiences.  THE SHOPPING EXPERIENCE-1970s-1980s The Barbie Dolls and Barbie clothes at K Mart Getting a mood ring at K Mart and feeling so cool  The excited butterflies in the tummy, when pulling into the shopping mall parking lot The bright lights and the smell of the Cinnabon store The Waldenbooks, where you bought Laura Ingalls Wilder books, where you discovered Sylvia Plath The record store, where you thumbed through record albums, and you discovered Blondie and Jacqueline du Pre The Clinique counter, where the lady did your makeup and made you feel glamorous and grown up, and assured you Brooke Shields was nothing without her makeup  The food! Arthur Treachers Fish and Chips, Morrisons Cafeteria with the fried chicken and buttery rolls and iced tea All the latest issues of Teen and Seventeen magazine The Super X drugstore with Sophia perfume, Vidal Sassoon shampoo, and Maybelline Kissing Potion The movie theater where you saw The Turning Point seven times and fell in love with ballet (1977 the most magical year) Orange Julius Trying European cheese samples at the Swiss Colony The ORLANE counter - the epitome of elegance to me  The Stendahl counter - This was a really beautiful and expensive French cosmetics brand. The lady at the counter was French. I practiced my French with her and she sent me a little note in French later on. She was kind. I had cystic acne. It was bad. "Oh, I see you have a little but of acne. Not to worry, it just needs a bit of astringent and fond de teint." She was tactful and gave me nice samples.  My first Estee Lauder GWP - I thought I was Princess Di - it had Cinnibar perfume My first LANCOME GWP - I thought I was Princess Caroline. I was given Sun Touched Terra lipstick  Princess Marcella Borghese Germaine Monteil - Royal Secret Alexandra de Markoff - I never did get to try that legendary foundation - department store cosmetics were rare and glorious treats Adrien Arpel in her pre HSN days  The Erno Laszlo counter. It was so mysterious. You could not buy from them unless you went through a kind of initiation. You had to get an analysis and buy a special kit. It was fascinating. Now they just have samples going in beauty sub boxes any old way - Dr. L would not be very happy. He wanted his beauty routines done right and they were quite unorthodox. See the book, The Natural Way to Super Beauty by Mary Ann Crenshaw to know more about this.  And I could go on and on. Of course I had no credit cards then, no job, just a little allowance. So I was not really ever spending much, just having fun. It's when you're older and have credit and money that it becomes a problem. Now there's no money, no time to shop, K Mart and the malls are ghost towns. And don't get me started on how much more fun TV was back then. Even going to the library was so much fun. Now all is so dull, dull, dull! I just get up, go to my job, come home, eat dinner, go to bed, and hope that my No Buy will make me rich and happy one day.
    • i love natural products, but before buying products , i encourage u to know what type ur skin and read about it well , then everything will be clear for u and easy
    • i need info regarding Lash Extensions from real experience ?!
    • I am religiously using Vitamin C, E, Ferulic Acid serum by Radium Skin. They ship overseas. And its not expensive too, considering how much other mainstream labels are charging.
