Secret Santa 2014! - Main thread

Recommended Posts

I'm out of the hospital. I ended up only having to be in for 3 nights, thankfully. I'm stuck in bed, but my brother should be able to mail the packages, so hopefully it will all work out. Thank you so much for the well-wishes, everyone!

Hope you make a speedy recovery!

I really want to apologize to my Santa for not participating as much on the thread. Both of my dogs were stolen and life has not been the same. My daughter was outside with them and ran inside to get her keys and when she came back they were gone. We looked/ drove every where. My neighborhood is quite and everyone knows everyone's dog and if they get loose we bring them back to the person. I really think it was someone who didn't live in the neighborhood. They have chips and still have not been activated. I think whomever have them intends on keeping them. One is a pure breed bischon frise and the other is a King Charles mixed with cocker spaniel known as cavalier/ designer dog. They were both groomed, house train and loving friendly dogs. It's hard to get in the spirit but I am trying. I think I have to just push myself because I am overwhelmingly sad. So Santa, don't take it personally. I am trying to get back on track and I will be grateful for my gifts.

So sorry that happened to you and your family. I hope you get your pups back.

In other bummer news, my Grandmother has been in the hospital this week and the doctors are expecting her to pass any moment now (they actually thought it would be a couple days ago. I swear she hear them and was like, "oh yeah? Watch this.")   It's sad, but there's a lot of good things surrounding it - my Dad was able to fly up and see her before she went into a coma and said she's getting great care.

It shouldn't affect getting my gift out - I'm just waiting for Ulta to deliver my Cyber Monday order.  I got a shipping notice Friday night, but the tracking still isn't working, so who knows when that'll happen.  If I do get delayed, I'll let someone know!  But if my Santa has anything in the mail to me, don't be alarmed if I don't report it as received right away as I'm planning to fly up for the funeral. My husband will be here, so if he actually lets me know that I received a package, I'll try to jump on here and let you know!

EDIT: She passed earlier this afternoon  :( I'll be heading up at some point this week. Hopefully my Ulta order will come and I'll have it sent out next weekend.

I think I would find some way to go voodoo vengeance if anyone stole my doggy :( (Of course, he weighs like 80 pounds so they might have a task trying to do so...but...he loves people, so he might go with them willingly, idk).

IN OTHER NEWS, doing the end of my wrapping today! All I still have to wrap is my main gift if USPS ever gets their heads out of their butts and delivers it.

My family had a super sweet mostly black lab (ah, country living:  People have litters of dogs that look like they're straight-up labs, but since no one knows who the dad is, they can't be sure of the breeds involved, and then they give the ADORABLE puppies away for free) who I started taking for long walks in parks when I was in college with my own car.  He *loved* going for walks.  He also *loved* the vet.  No clue what was going on there.  Both of these things combined to make a dog who loved people, *raced* to any car parked in our driveway, and climbed in when there was an open door.  I don't know how many times I had to drag him out of my car when I was trying to go to work!

@@yousoldtheworld Your wrapping is literal eye candy!  :o

:D Thanks! I wanted to go bright and colorful with it because, well, that's how I roll. I got a santee who likes color so I got the crazy eyes and bypassed the christmas paper and headed right for the birthday section, lol! (There's a 3rd pattern, too, a hot pink with white polka dots. And a few things in light blue and dark blue tissue. Basically, I went as colorful with it as I could. )

I have officially (for real this time) finished shopping. Everything is wrapped (not beautifully, but with the best of intentions (: ) and packed up. I will be shipping Monday!

And an FYI to my Santa: I have just been informed that I will be going out of town this Christmas. I will be leaving the 24th, and there won't be anyone to bring anything in for about a week after that.

All of my gifts but one are in very small packaging, so the huge box with all the tiny gifts is giving me anxiety. I am going to see if I can swap something out for something a little more... substantial, but Dear Santee, if I can't I promise you much love was put into those tiny packages! :D

Same issue! I was looking that the stuff I have and it just looks like...not much at all! I'm going to do a mini shopping run today to see if I can find a few extras to throw in. I really want to get my box in the mail on Monday!

I finally started wrapping today! My friend was supposed to come over to help, but something came up.

I will put a sneak peek under spoiler.  And if you are my santee and thinking to yourself "wow that looks boring/weird/blah etc." It is a theme but I can't post the whole thing or it will give it away.

I hope when you open it you will "get" the theme and better be able to appreciate it!

I started 1 of the 2 crafty projects today.

Also I will say the "theme" is not quite coming out how it looked in my head, but I am not 100% done so maybe I can redeem myself. lol

Thank you!  It was an interesting wrapping material to say the least!  Can't wait to finalize the details that tie it together, pack it up and send it off!  I am excited to see what my santee thinks (of the gifts not the wrapping lol)

@@lovepink that looks awesome! I love the burlap-yness and the use of the string and ribbon!

There is so much fun and unique wrapping going on in this group!

Also, a hooray for USPS sunday deliveries! I received the final item for my person today and the tracking said it wouldn't be here until Tuesday!

@onelilapark I'm so sorry for you and your family's loss. I flew up to OR yesterday and today is my grandfathers funeral. He was 96. I fly back Tuesday. It does put a damper on the holidays, but we are trying to celebrate his life. It's still sad though. Take care everyone!!

My theme is now kind of a loose theme, I just couldn't get a few of the things that would have made it a fully themed gift (toooo expensive with shipping) so, I've got a kind of theme.:)

You at least for sure owned the theme of fantastically fun wrapping paper.

    • No Buy Program Guide   I found a great new No Buy channel on YouTube (well it found me; it was in my recommended videos), a new No Buy channel from a New York concert pianist, Natalia Lavrova. I find this fascinating, because I love the world of classical music. Here is someone in my dream life, who loves shopping, and beauty subscriptions, who has credit card debt, and is doing a No Buy! I'll be fascinated to watch this channel and hear how this artist's No Buy goes as she is preparing for concert tours abroad! Ms. Lavrova has a really good Shop My Stash video with great tips on winter makeup colors, like icy pink highlighter. I looked for her piano performances on YouTube and they are stunning. This is going to be a big inspiration for me!
    • I made it through the night with no buying! I slept through the shopping craving like it was an illness. I woke up after the 12 hours of sleep and as I was waking up I thought of a happy time in the 90's. I was young; all my family members were alive. I was at a Bond film, Tomorrow Never Dies, (I love James Bond and don't know what I am going to do when his new film is released, since I'm not allowed money for entertainment on my No Buy). On the floor near my feet was a big bag of Estee Lauder products that I had just gotten with my birthday and Christmas money. I had a full size moisturizer and a huge PWP, beautiful. The film had a great ending. The Bond girl was underwater, running out of air, and just in time, there's James Bond, the theme music resumes! Great scene! And walking around the mall after, how happy I felt! And today I am sad that time is gone, many family members are gone, life is sadder, time is running out, and I did not use that bag of Estee Lauder products up! I probably used them a few times and then threw them out and bought something else. And maybe if I had used every drop, in my mind, I could have held on to life, to time, to happiness. At any rate I would have had more money. If only we knew about No Buys and Project Pans then! This is just one of a million examples of how I think about this.  When I woke up Elle S was still analyzing her samples! She was talking about how her project taught her to evaluate (excellent video, Oct 1, 2017).  Last night in bed I took some photos of samples I need to use up. Sorry for so many long posts, but I've really had to work on this for the last 24 hours. Primers, shower gels and body scrub, toners, and masques.
    • I haven't given in and bought anything yet, though I wanted to. I went to bed early (I think it was 5 pm), and I was listening to Elle S 365 Days of Samples playlist on YouTube. It is inspiring. Elle is detailed, persevering, and creative. I was very cozy, and I dreamed I was going to a spa in Europe. I was so excited about the spa, and about the skin care products the spa was going to have in the room for us. My mother was going with me, and I told her I was going to bring a minimal amount of beauty products in my suitcase, because we would be getting some from the spa. When I woke up I was sad, because the dream was so nice. Now I just woke up and I'm hot and thirsty, but the craving to shop has gone down somewhat. Before I went to sleep I looked in my sample boxes. I saw a beautiful mini lotion with a gold bow on the package that I got for Christmas and had already forgotten about. The glittery gold bow sparkled beautifully in the light.  This while experience today of realizing I have been on No Buy so long without realizing it has been interesting. I have been keeping busy with other things. I began going to a a new religious congregation a month after I went back on No Buy (a different religion I wanted to learn about for a long, long time) and have been busy with that, and have been making new friends and socializing more. The new religion is one that fills my need for intellectual and artistic (through its liturgy) stimulation. I've met wonderful people. It's not always easy to keep going there, as I'm shy and reclusive, but I've kept it up. Maybe this is what made the time go so fast without me knowing it.  I guess I'll go and listen to some more 365 Days of Samples.
    • I'm changing the way I keep track of the time on my No Buy in order to motivate myself more. I didn't realize until today that I'm in month 8 of my second year! Four and a half months until completion of Year 2! I want to finish my mini sample products by June 12, 2020. Here is a partial inventory: Shampoo minis - all used up! Face cream, and face cleanser minis - all used up after a great deal of work and patience!  Mini body scrubs - 1  Mini shower gels - 7 Mini face primers - 8 Mini toners - 9 Mini face masques - 12 I still have to add up mini body creams, hair conditioners, and perfumes. I should reorganize them all to get a new perspective.
    • Today is the test - will I pass or fail?  Two years ago at this time (end of January 2018, on a Sunday), I discovered Hannah Louise Poston videos for the first time. She had just begun her channel. I recalled cleaning my room while watching the videos and feeling very inspired about my No Buy. I was inspired for an entire year, until ... One year ago at this time (end of January 2019, on a Sunday), I was feeling down. The weather was very bad. There was no good food in the house. I started watching haul type videos. I decided to buy something I didn't need. I felt HORRIBLE and just went on a binge. I tried to hard to get back on the path, but couldn't. I didn't get back on the path until June, when I came back with renewed vigor and had huge success for the rest of the year.  I have been thinking, why don't I just let go again, today? After all, last year I let go and did not ruin myself that much, and then by summer, like a miracle, I was back on No Buy and finished all my goals for the year and more. So I'm using that as justification for cheating. I do have shopping cravings right now. Still, I have not used half of the nice things I got on my binge last year. What will I do? Will I relive 2018 or 2019?  ______ Several hours later. I still want to shop. I cleaned a bit while watching the very first video of Hannah Louise Poston, which was published on January 15, 2018 (Introducing My No-Buy Year!). Watching that brought back a lot of good memories. At the 10:00 mark of this video, Hannah was taking about still being in the exciting early phase of the No Buy, with packages still coming in the mail from the last fling before, and it all being new and not the long haul yet. Then I realized I'm not in the early phase, I'm in the long haul now. I looked at my diaries and realized that I am already halfway through the eighth month of my second No Buy year! It has actually been that long since I began again on June 12! I only have four and a half months to complete in my second No Buy year! I really had no idea I was so far along. So while the calendar year is young, it's August as far as my No Buy Year 2 is concerned. The second year of No Buy goes quickly! I still want to shop, but now I am looking at things differently, and may feel less tempted.
