Get contacts in the UK - anyone from the UK?

Can someone tell me, is it hard to buy contacts in the stores there? I mean do you need some prescription or can you just tell them what kind of contacts you want? I'm asking because I usually order from the US but as I'm going to London next month I could get them there, probably cheaper

You need to buy them from an opticians and show them your prescription. I don't think you can just walk in and buy them, they'll need to be ordered.

It might be different in the larger London ones though.
