LaPrairie is (in the US, anyway) sold in cities where poor people are not allowed to live, but allowed to stand behind the boundary line and sigh in bitter resignation.

Whaaaaat? How bourgeois.

So like... Cali? NYC? Miami? Atlanta? I'm not good with US cities (Buffalo is one of my favourites though, I go there often! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> )

I'm being facetious, but LaPrairie is obscenely expensive! It did not take off in Buffalo; the one store that carried it folded after less than two years, in part because they treated customers like dirt (I was once escorted out for wearing sneakers. The store had a dress code requiring female patrons to wear pumps. The problem is that I was on crutches--can you tell me how you're going to wear a heel on one foot and a cast on the other?) This and other incidents led to very bad press and accusations of racial discrimination, and Taylor's lost the little business it had. Today the most expensive stuff you can find in Buffalo is probably Hourglass, followed by Dior. And next time you're out this way, let's do wings! :)

Originally from Moscow, Russia (and we sure have a lot of luxury brands there) now living in USA.

Like @Bflopolska mentioned, LaPrairie is a world-famous high end brand that makes very expensive products, including makeup; even La Mer's prices will start looking reasonable in comparison.

There are many other luxe makeup brands (Chantecaille, Cle de Peau, La Mer, Guerlain, Le Metier de Beaute, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Tom Ford, Tory Burch, Armani, Helena Rubinstein etc), but your question was about the most expensive one, which in my experience was La Prairie :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Yikes! I've only been escorted out of stores twice; both clothing stores, one rather rudely. But that's ridiculous!

I wonder what happens when people try to wear the new fad of heeled sneakers in there, lol. The most expensive you could find here would have to be the stuff in Sears which is about to fold, sadly. Next up is Shoppers DrugMart with Dior- we don't have Urban Decay. :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

And heck yes, definitely!! I love wings.

Taylor's folded in the late 1990's, due in part to the very hefty price tags and largely to the accusations of racism, doormen turning away Ladies of Color on ridiculous grounds, etc. they were going for an atmosphere where you had June Cleaver shopping in her pumps and pearls--like pumps are at all practical during an average Buffalo winter! The time I got kicked out for wearing a sneaker on one foot and a cast on the other? It was also late January, decidedly NOT pump season in my neck of the woods. Gotta tell you though, I miss Shoppers! I was engaged to a guy fom Etobicoke (I think it's a local ordinance or something, for a Buffalo girl to date at least one Canadian while still of childbearing age) and my twice-monthly visits included stocking up on Rialto bath and body stuff and Annabelle and Marcelle cosmetics. I used to read cards for the girls in this one store in the same plaza as my ex's barber shop, while he was in there getting trimmed and shaved. Maybe send a message next time you're running down my way? If we play it right we can eat wings and blow our paychecks on pretties for ourselves!

I can't remember if it's American or Swiss. I can understand some mark-up on a European brand, because they have to make up for shipping and duty costs etc. somehow. But it would have to ensure my eternal salvation before I'd spend that kind of money on it. I buy a mix of drugstore and high-end, but I also have a mortgage to pay and cats to feed, and know my limitations!

oh so its a US brand.
No, it's a Swiss brand which is sold worldwide in prestigious department stores as well as the brand's own boutiques. Crabtree and Evelyn is Swiss, and so is Arbonne, and Karin Herzog [Kate Middleton loves that one].
