Outter darker Shades

Hi fellow MUT users

Could anybody advise me on how to apply (and especially what shape to apply in) on the darkest shade applied in the smokey eyed look.

Ive had people say to apply it all over the eyelid and then some have said to do in the crease and along the lashes line.

Also which way to I blend it upwards towards the brow or outwards to create wider eyes (like a cats eyes look)

also could anybody recommend a MAC brush to apply this darker shade with. I think the one im using is too big and it ends up looking real messy
