Why should people conform?

If people want to wear some far-left makeup and clothes, by all means do it. As long as it doesn't interfere with me making money or eating, it's all gravy. Besides I am the child of the 80s and I like making money and nice things.

I think that people shouldn't need to conform to certain standards, but there is a difference between looking "nonconformist" and looking unpresentable. for example, you wouldn't go to work without taking a shower and having your hair looking like a bird's nest because you were going for the "natural" look :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I conform to my own standards only. If I want to go somewhere and "fit in", I do. If I want to go somewhere and "stand out", I do. I'm adult enough to realize that my style choices as well as my attitude do effect how other people treat me and also that sometimes that doesn't matter.

Even the ones you call "sheep". I had blue hair too! =D It was blue when I was 13-15, green for a while, then pink, purple, red-- pretty much every color under the sun. Likewise, I didn't have much trouble getting along in society. I even got some compliments!
However, in regards to the OP:

I have to wonder what the purpose of this thread was. Obviously you posted this to tell us all that we're "sheep" since there's no positive option in your poll, which I think is rather bratty. But then, I think most "goths" with the non-conformist stick up their butts are bratty.

I find it ironic that most "goths" don't even know where the style came from. I find it ironic that, like others have said, you all look identical to each other while you still tout your non-conformist BS. I find it ironic that most "goths" will reject you if you look the slightest bit different from them-- but you guys are non-conformist, right?

"Conform to me, not to them."

Idiots.

You might be wondering why I put the word goth in quotations. Well, here's why: in highschool (way back before "goth" became a mall trend) I was goth. A real goth chick, who wore *gasp* colors other than black. And of course, I had a personality that didn't include reading sad poetry to my cat and harassing people who don't look exactly like me. Doesn't really conform to "goth" standards nowadays though, I guess.

I won't be unreasonable and say you'll never get a job looking like a hot topic dweller (obviously, I was employed despite all of my piercings and my blue hair) but I will say this: no one likes a brat. It's possible to be different and not be a ***** about it.

In fact, I find that people tend to appreciate differences a whole lot more when you're not a *****.

To put it simply: I don't have a problem with your makeup, lady, I have a problem with your attitude.

That is true, I will admit I do find myself staring at the girl with foundation that is 2 shades too dark. But not in critism, I just think she needs help picking a right shade.( I should know, I was that girl long time ago.) and if she intended to do that, then power to her. As far as everything else, I don't conform. If I feel like doing porn star make-up, I will probably dress up to match.(But I would stay in my room, because I have a 5 year old neice that lives a door away from my room and looks up to me.) If I feel like wearing black eyeliner so thick I look like a racoon, then so be it. I wear what I want when I want. Because wearing something I'm not, Feels like I'm wearing a mask. I don't wear anything to cover myself, I wear who I am.

I posted about the fact she's the same one that asked the question about the Twilight make-up... but was being a bit bratty with her "sheep" options. And ironic. (But I deleted it...now I feel like I'm not so alone on my thoughts!)
I mean, really. TWILIGHT? That's the ultimate in conformity right now.

why do you consider black lipstick ugly? goth?

do you really have nothing better to do than stare at that girl's too dark foundation, or mismatched lips?

if they want to look like adorabatbrat for a day, let them.

why should i conform to the media's ideal image of beauty?

feel free to cuss me out, hatemail is appreciated.
I have rarely conformed. I typically wait out a fad before trying it (sooo, I guess I am typically behind the times fashion wise

)Who wear dark colors only at night???

I don't consider black lipstick goth. I consider it '80's style. It's the goth who copied it from us "80's girls.

I think the worst foundation I have ever really focused on so much that I thought about afterward (and even to this day, apparently) was one of those people news crews interview on the scene of a news story and this mixed chick (so about the same skin tone as mine) was wearing white foundation and it ended at the jawline. I don't know if she thought she was pulling it off or if she borrowed some friend's stuff and got caught on camera but it was hideous. And it wasn't a vampire thing because it was a few years ago, before vampires came into vogue. Plus she was wearing big jersey and shorts set.

Gosh aren't you a little ray of sunshine?

I conform to keep a job down

I have a ton of piercings but they're all in my ears and I can cover them with my hair for interviews, once I've got the job it's too late!

I have my own style, 1940/50s because I love how feminine it looks and I incorporate lots of colour into my day job wardrobe but at the end of the day, employers are looking for a certain 'look' - if you don't fit it then they won't want you.
