$12 for nyx jumbo pencil ?! Then I saw you listed Canadian prices...heart attack averted lol. Thanks for sharing!
Yeah, NYX is weirdly overpriced in Canada. Usually I find the price differences aren't too bad but when I first saw NYX in Canada I went "wtf" too lol

It's ridiculously overpriced, but so is most drugstore makeup. I picked up my Nyx milk on sale for $8. Cheapest I've seen it. I want to buy some Ardell lashes to try, and I saw some girls mentioning $3-4 in the ipsy thread, but the lowest I've seen here is $10. And that was on sale. I don't want to try that bad, lol.

I don't find most drugstore stuff too bad in comparison, but that might be because I'm from Alberta. I think it depends on the brand? And yes Ardell is crazy omg. I'm just... are you serious?

I agree with brand, and definitely location in Canada. I lived in Ontario until this past summer, and now I'm in BC. There are definite items and brands that are more expensive here. Of course, living on an island at the end of the country makes everything a bit more expensive compared to being in the middle of the country at a major US-Canada crossing area.

@ddalgi @wrkreads You poor things! I couldn't imagine spending $12 a piece on a jumbo eyeshadow pencil. I mean, they're worth it, for sure, but still!

Oh this is going to be fun

Oh, crap, this is gonna be an eye opener.  I may as well confess now, I love high-end stuff.  Plus, and this is the honest truth, but a lot of the drugstore stuff breaks me out.  But I do love high end anyway, skin sensitivities or not.

2.  Chanel concealer - $40

3.  Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder - $24

4.  Bare Minerals foundation - $27

5.  Laura Mercier Mineral Finishing Powder - $34

Diadermine hydra nutrition day crème $11

Catrice primer $9

Mac face and body foundation 4.0 FL OZ $44

Lips:

Maybeline baby lips $4

Maybeline colorSensational $11

Total-- $288

Ok, this is interesting! I am also interested in breaking it out to annual  costs, and I've tried to calculate how long each product lasts for me ( I don't wear all this makeup every single day. I think my foundation and concealer last about 6 months each. So I have to repurchase twice annually. My eyebrow pencil and mascara only last for 3 months each, so I have to repurchase 4 times annually. I'm not sure about the others, they're a bit harder to keep track of and I don't use them as often. The lip stuff, I probably repurchase every 2 months, so I repurchase 6 times annually.

I calculated this for me, first only makeup, then with skincare, then with brushes.

Just makeup:

Foundation: Aloette Ultra Finish SPF 15 $20

Blush: NYX $5

Bronzer: NYX $5

Highlight: Tarte (from Girls Night Out palette) $10

Eyeliner: Tarte (dark matte eyeshadow from same palette as above) $5

Eyebrows:NYX $6

Eyeshadow: Tarte (from same palette as above) $5

Mascara: Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes $19

Lips: Supergoop Acaifusion SPF 30 $8

Concealer: Aloette Conceal Away Duo $22

Blotting papers: CVS or Kroger brand (Clean and Clear knockoffs) $3-5

Eyelid primer: UDPP $20

Total for just makeup: $145

With Skincare:

Skincare System: Paula's Choice Skin Balancing System* $135

Extras: Eyecream or rosehip oil $25

Total for just skincare: $160

Total for makeup + skincare: $305

With brushes:

Amy Head brush set: $100

EcoTools brush set: $10

Aloette brushes: $40

Elf brushes: $10

Total for just brushes: $160

Total for makeup + skincare + brushes: $465

Of course, my brushes last me and I don't have to repurchase those. Thank goodness we're not really counting brushes!!!

Skincare gets expensive, but I feel like that's something you should concentrate on, allowing you to purchase and use less makeup. *The Paula's Choice skincare system includes cleanser, toner, BHA exfolliant, retinol-antioxidant serum, oil-absorbing weekly mask, night moisturizer, day moisturizer with SPF 30, and a pack of blotting papers.

LOL!

You know, after I looked over my post from last night, I was really beating myself up.  "You could be using Meow foundation.  You could be using NYX for ALL of your color.  There's no need for this kind of expense."

And then I did my face this morning for the first time in days, since I've been off from work for the holiday.  And I swear - I was thrilled with how I looked.  I'm 50, and my makeup has never looked more polished.  That has to say something about the quality of the products - at least I hope so!  So I calmed down a bit about the actual dollar amount from last night.

That's true, too - I know the stuff I use is really expensive, but it's also not like I'm buying it every week!

ahh this is a scary thought!! haha

hmm can't remember exact prices but I will try my best!! Most of these prices are Canadian, except for the products I have bought in the states

Some days I change a few products, but give or take a few it's usually the same, but this was this morning

Nars powder foundation $45 (American)

Mac illuminator ($35 I think)

Very pretty!

Ok so hopefully I don't cringe too much because of this but here it goes:

  • Too Faced Brow Envy: $35
  • Elf Brow Gel: $1
  • Revlon Eye Primer: $10
  • Urban Decay De-Slick Gel: $27
  • The Balm Nude'Tude Palette: $36
  • Starlooks Eyeliner: $12
  • Elizabeth Mott Mascara: $7 (rough guess from Ipsy)
  • Chanel Concealer: $40
  • Chanel Powder: $52
  • Tarte Bronzer: $10 (travel size)
  • Hard Candy Blush: $7
  • Maybelline Baby Lips: $3
  • Chanel gloss: $27

Total: $267

I am actually very surprised and happy with this. This isn't a lot at all. These products last me for a good while so it's not like I'm spending that much every day or week.

I always find its good when you can have a good mix of drugstore and high end - feels like to get the best of both worlds

It definitely keeps the price down. Obviously if it was up to me I would have all high end but my wallet tells me I can't. the majority of my collection is higher end but there are a few drugstore products I love. Like the Hard Candy blush, it is definitely one of my favorites and I think it beats out my Chanel blush (Cant believe I said that) so it really is the *best Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus

impression* best of both worlds.
