What`s the best way to apply a liquid foundation--with the brush or a sponge?

First, I pour just a little liquid foundation into the cap. Then I take my mac foundation brush and swipe it all over my face. Once I'm done blending it as best I can, I'll go over it with the sponge "patting" it in. I'm currently using revlon colorstay foundation, and it tends to dry faster than others, so I have to go over it with a sponge.
