Mu is alot about application, knowing how to match shades etc. and some people DO do it better than others, and that in itself is quite an accomplishment. The thing is that not everyone is gorgeous even with great makeup on. It sounds mean of me to say, & I promise I'm a really nice person. It's true though. Not every average woman wants to admit it, but a lot of those celeb women really do have gorgeous features that are great for playing up with makeup. Even the most incredible makeup artists in the world cannot make an ugly person stunning.

No.I would not be offended.

If you are confident about your self, nothing like that

would bother you.

Our culture takes glee in criticizing women.  Our looks, our intellect, our skills, our housekeeping, our weight.  This is just one more thing that may be said to keep us down .....  STOP IT, and don't stand for it.

Which culture? American? Canadian? European? Middle Eastern? Indian? Hispanic? African? Every human being on this planet has opinions even on what is beautiful. It is not "our" culture that does since there are so many on this planet and too many are against women.

If you think "our" culture is bad then you know nothing about Middle Eastern culture where women are not allowed to go out in public without a male escort (husband, brother, father), drive and in some countries even show their face. Driving in Saudi Arabia can lead a woman to be killed. In some African cultures women are castrated because they think it's beautiful. In some American Christian religions a woman must be subservient to a man. In Traveler culture women can't work, can't go out, can't date and once they marry that's pretty much it for them - the husband can do what he wants, when he wants while the wife must stay home unless she has his permission.

Generalizing that "our" culture takes glee in criticizing women is not fair because "our" culture is not made up of one type of person or group of people.

I'd say "Wow, what a coincidence, you're only pretty/handsome when I drink!"

Hell yeah I'd be offended.  That's just mean to say.

I don't know if that's at me or the only pretty with makeup comment, but for me it's all the suburban kid rage stored up.

No, no it was definately at the 'pretty only with makeup' comment. It's a really catty (and witchy) thing to say about someone, IMHO.

Eh, not really offended. It's kind of a compliment to your makeup application, in a way. But if a stranger said it, I'd be fine. If it was someone close to me, I'd be upset.

I think people would only say that to offend anyways.  I doubt that people generally make a comment like that to be kind.

I agree, I wouldn't particularly like the comment. But if it was someone I didn't know then there's always the bright side to look on - they like how you apply make-up.

Hmmm. Offended? Maybe. Hurt? YES. Things that people say like that mentally get to me for a bit.....

Personally I think I look much better with makeup...

Yeah, if someone said I ONLY look pretty with makeup... that's kind of mean. I don't think I'd get too crazy about it, but I wouldn't really enjoy that comment.

But if someone said "You look way better with makeup," that's not offensive.  That's WHY I wear makeup in the first place - to look better!  :p

So no one has ever said that to my face (obviously most girls look 10x better and more glamorous with make-up) but I do get irked when I hear people say it about someone else, and I realize guys are ignorant and all and can get away with saying things like this, but the girls who say it about other girls, most of the time don't realize that they aren't as fabulous without make-up either...

I don't get offended. I hear it all the time, " you look completely different with your makeup on" I also get you look better without makeup and you look better with it. It doesnt offend me, I'd rather people be honest and dont really care what people say.

Am I secure with my own self esteem where I wouldn't get offended? You betcha.... Am I redheaded enough to get in her face, tell her if she can say anything nice and polite than she she should keep her damn trap shut? You bet your sweet ass!!

possibly, but i know what i look like without make up and it's not an extremely pleasant sight!
