I'm a pretty fair person, but I do own a black lipstick.

I use it when I want to deepen a particular color, and it does QUITE well.

I like to apply the black lipstick that I have with a light hand, and then go over it with a red lip gloss and it's very VA VA VOOOM!

As for other dark lip colors, MAC makes some fantastic SUPER DARK lip colors such as Media and Cyber, which I also own myself. They'll also do the trick if you're a bit scared of black.

Mostly now, i use it whenever i'm bored and wanna do some "different" looks...
